{"id":1367,"date":"2023-05-25T15:36:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T13:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/blog\/new-findings-in-the-bioval-research-project\/"},"modified":"2024-04-26T10:13:59","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T08:13:59","slug":"new-findings-in-the-bioval-research-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/en\/blog\/new-findings-in-the-bioval-research-project\/","title":{"rendered":"New findings in the BioVal research project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row ppi_content_type=&#8221;ppi_content_width_medium&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]\r\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">New findings in the BioVal research project<\/h1>\r\n[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"see_image \"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-1200x900.webp\" class=\"attachment-see-lg size-see-lg\" alt=\"Ast mit Bl\u00fcten und Biene\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-1200x900.webp 1200w, https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-1024x768.webp 1024w, https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-1920x1440.webp 1920w, https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-992x744.webp 992w, https:\/\/gruppe.seeberger.de\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Seeberger_Mandelplantage_Biodiversitaet-480x360.webp 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>[vc_column_text]As part of the BioVal research project, in which we have been an active project partner since 2022, a focus group discussion was recently held with consumers.\n\nThe aim was to find out what information consumers need about biodiversity when shopping for food.\n\nThe <strong>main topics of<\/strong> the focus group discussion were:\n<ul>\n \t<li>Previous experience of buying food with products labeled as biodiversity-friendly<\/li>\n \t<li>Evaluation of selected examples<\/li>\n \t<li>Importance of biodiversity protection for different product and commodity groups<\/li>\n \t<li>Need for information on measures taken by food manufacturers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe <strong>main results<\/strong> of the discussion can be summarized as follows:\n<ul>\n \t<li>The participating consumers have so far hardly <em>noticed<\/em> <em>any references<\/em> to biodiversity when shopping for food in supermarkets or organic markets<\/li>\n \t<li>Organic food, associations and labels are primarily associated with <em>biodiversity<\/em> protection when shopping; there were <em>occasional references<\/em> to products on project cooperation with nature\/environmental protection organisations<\/li>\n \t<li>In some cases, a <em>connection<\/em> is also made to other sustainability-related aspects (e.g. resource-saving packaging)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe participants in the panel discussion are <em>unsure<\/em>&#8230;\n<ul>\n \t<li>&#8230;what species protection involves<\/li>\n \t<li>&#8230;which measures are effective<\/li>\n \t<li>&#8230;whether organic products are fundamentally more biodiversity-friendly than conventional products<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nOverall, it can be summarized that <strong>well-known labels <\/strong>(and possibly the combination of these with unknown labels) are <strong>the most credible<\/strong> for the consumers surveyed. <strong>Specific project examples with details<\/strong> are also well received. <strong>Short, concise information <\/strong>(preferably on the product) about <strong>specific measures and a reference <\/strong>(website, QR code) <strong>for further information and more details<\/strong> are desired. There is also a desire to find out something interesting from the information and to learn something.\n\nThe focus group discussion provides important pointers for communicating the topic to consumers. It was conducted in preparation for a nationwide, representative survey. The study planned for fall 2023 will determine the extent to which references to biodiversity protection on the product increase consumers&#8217; willingness to buy and pay.
